Luc Lachance

In addition to being a seasoned litigator, Mr. Lachance represents a business clientele made up of insurers, businesses and individuals mainly in the fields of insurance, construction, real estate and civil liability.

EXPERIENCE

Mr. Lachance is a founding partner at LDB after having been the principal founding partner of a Montreal boutique law firm for over 15 years. He graduated from the Faculty of Law of UQAM in 1994, with distinction, launching his career with a major Montreal law firm.  He practices in civil, insurance and commercial litigation and has pleased before all judicial instances and appeal levels. In the course of his practice, he has developed extensive expertise in insurance, real estate and construction law.

PRACTICE PHILOSOPHY

The practice of law is carried out in close collaboration with clients at all stages of the case.  As such, Mr. Lachance keeps his clients informed of the progress of the file on a regular and continuous basis, always being available to his clients, partners, colleagues and lawyers involved in the file. He is a formidable litigant favoring a dispute resolution approach.

Insurance and liability:

Defense:

Acting primarily as defense counsel, his main areas of practice are general corporate liability, construction law, general manufacturers’ liability, liability of pre-purchase inspectors, heating/cooling, plumbing, electrical and general contractors’ subcontractors.

Represented insurers and their insured in major pyrrhotite and pyrite cases.

Coverage:

Drafting coverage opinions, in insurance coverage study files for Commercial General Liability insurance policies (CGL);

Drafting of reserve letters;

Representations in insurance coverage denial files.

Real Estate:

Representation of real estate developers in transactions and litigation arising from transactions.

Representation of real estate developers in lawsuits against workmanship, hidden defects and alleged manufacturing defects.

Manufacturing liability:

Representation of manufacturers of agricultural and industrial machinery, industrial generators, industrial washing/drying equipment.

Class actions:

Representation in defense of manufacturers and religious congregations.

Hidden defects:

Representation in both plaintiff and defendant actions for latent defects/infringements.
